What’s Bruce Lee’s Favorite Drink? Wataaa!

Me, doing some martial arts choreography for a play a few years back. Shout out to Bruce Lee!

In short, all living beings that are composed of cells need water.  Plants, fungi, bacteria, and animals in all shapes and sizes need the liquid element to stay alive.  In as much as living beings need oxygen, organisms need water as well.  Hold up, isn’t there oxygen IN water?  Well, there you go!

As far as exercise is concerned, how much water do people NEED in order to get the most out of their workouts?  Here is what research suggests:

For the average male: 3 liters of water (roughly 12 cups) every single day.

For the average female: 2.2 liters of water (a little over 9 cups) every single day.

For athletes even more.

One good rule of thumb is to check your urine (as medical as it will get on here).  If it’s yellow, you can afford to drink more.  Aim for a clear color or as little yellow as possible.

My sister and I horseback riding on the beach with water in the background (not drinkable though).  Long Beach, Washington state.

Another rule of thumb for people who are exercise savvy is whenever you sweat for 15 to 20 minutes, you should be drinking at least 5 sips of water to replenish that which was lost through sweat.  People have various sweat volumes.  In yoga classes, it’s always interesting to see which person will have the enormous puddle underneath them; a sign that their metabolism and body function is in extremely good health.

So drink up (water, that is) and mix in a few glasses of iced green tea or chamomile every once in a while as a refreshment.  Cleanliness is as much psychological as it is biological.  The way people think about their environment often leads to a series of behaviors that changes them for the better or for the worse.  They reduce their carbon footprint, purchase cleaning agents that are hypoallergenic and biodegradable, and vacuum their cars.  The body deserves the same attention.  Think clearly, drink clearly, and live clearly.  Clear? Chrystal!

The phrase “the mind is a terrible thing to waste” should also be extended to the body.  By drinking better, and increasing the flow of water throughout your metabolic system, you will start to notice a change.  Juan Ponce de León traveled far and wide in search of the Fountain of Youth 500 years ago and stumbled upon the wonderful state of Florida.  All you’re required to do, is grab a bottle of water and drink.  Who knows? It may just prove to be as magical as they say.
